About organisation: BELGRADE CITY LIBRARY – BCL (Biblioteka grada Beograda) is the biggest and most significant public library in Serbia. BCL consists of central library and the network of 14 municipal libraries and 70 branches. Already in 1987 BCL was the first public library in the country to implement elements of automation in its work. BCl has defined three major challenges in its further development: accommodating to the spreading of new technologies and the potential for new services that it brings; evolving demands of library users; and librarians‘ new expectations for education and training. BCL constantly builds internal partnerships between libraries, museums and archives. In the past it has participated in AccessIT, AccessIT Plus, Europeana Awareness, Di-XL and LoCloud projects. BCL has developed its own digital library (dlibra.bgb.rs) and managing of it represents one of the library’s main tasks in the coming decade.
